  1. My article is definatly explaining the causes of the Great Depression. It talks a great deal about the banking crisis and the stock market crash. and how they kind of "fed off eachother". these two things alone created a major issue for the American people.

  2. The Bonus Army article was a significant symptom of the Great Depression. With the unemployment rate at 23.6%, the country is already clearly submerged in a big depression at the time of the strike. The veterans were feeling the wrath of the immense economic slump, so their reaction was to demand their military bonus in this time of crisis.

  3. The source I was working with, "The Human Toll" is about the impact of the great depression on individuals, especially on workers. It talks about the unemployment rate - a symptom of the economic crash - and how it could both destroy and unite families. It also talks about men loosing their self respect for they couldn't take care for the family anymore, but also the rise of women, who now started to get employed and could do their share for the family.

  4. Bonus Army:
Like Nicki already said, the unemployment rate was very high because of the bad shape of the economy. The veterans wanted their bonuses for security at such a time of economic disaster. They felt like they should have this security over others.

  5. The article I read, 'Why it Happened', was about the causes of the great depression. It brought up how the federal government relied on state or even regional governments to help the unemployed or underemployed. I didn't realize that most people in the 'Roaring 20s' were living below the poverty line.

  6. "The Human Toll" is much more symptomatic rather than a cause of the Great Depression. The very beginning of the article is doing nothing more than describing the time period's environment. This varies from several rising unemployment statistics to its psychological toll on the people. I found it very surprising towards the end where it mentioned positive upbringings such as bringing families closer together.

  7. The Bonus Army article was written to highlight the symptoms of a failing economic system and a failing confidence in the government. If there were as many as 8,000 Veterans marching on washington then the government knows it must be in the wrong. There were some crazy revolutionaries in that "mob" but the majority weren't crazy revolutionaries, they were desperate and destitue heros from the war. I believe that this riot and how it was suppressed and all the things that Hoover didn't do spoke louder then the things that he did do.

  8. I read "The Bonus Army" and I think it was a symptom of the Great Depression. The unemployment rate of 23.6 percent was mentioned in the article. It also says that Hoover told the army to "put an end to rioting and defiance of authority". You cannot put an end to a cause of something. Therefore, this is definitely a symptom.

  9. I read the article titled: "The Human Toll". This article discussed the symptoms of the Great Depression. This list contains only a few of the effects the Great Depression had on the populace of the United States of America; Unemployment jumped from to 12 1/2 million, several families neglected medical and dental care in order conserve resources and money, The Great Depression forced many couples to delay their marriages, drove the birthrate to its lowest in American history. The list goes on, in short the 1930s was not a good time to be an American.

  10. I read the article "Why it Happened" and the title speaks for itself. This article explained the causes of the Great Depression which seemed to be have been not as sudden as the infamous Black Friday would make it seem. The stage was set in the roaring twenties when although America was growing more prosperous, a large portion of the country didn't see any benefit as the wealth was concentrated mostly towards the top. With most people at the bottom lacking any sort of spending power, the economy couldn't withstand the shock of the collapse of the banks across the country. Most of the causes of the depressing compounded each other and worked in harmony to send America into the longest and deepest period of economic downturn it has ever seen.

  11. The article i was assigned is called "Why it Happened",which is about a serious of causes and inter-relashonship about how those factor are inter active and related to each other. Start with the situition that majority of american family's annal income below the poverty line which sounds a bit odd to me,then it talks about how specific groups were totally ignored during the time. Then it's the downterm of agricutule reduced the buying power of suburbs and farmer's bad situition lead to the failure of banks, the failure of banks affected well-being of small business. It also talks about post war surplus and how funds lead to speculation of stocket market. The combination of uncontrouble installment and mortgage debt was disastrous.Add insult to the injury, the announced federal reserve and traiff of 1922/1930 pushed the america economy into the dead end. Eventually, this little tinny black cell grew to be a huge, lethal tumour.

  12. Why It Happen explains poverty and trys to determine why the poverty line rose above a lot of Americans. The majority of the income for American families was extremely low, causing the lower class to enlarge, and the middle class to receive the burden of keeping the economy afloat. Agricultural jobs were no where to be found and buying power dropped like a fly.

  13. "The Bonus Army" is definitely a symptom of the Great Depression, considering the terrible unemployment rate at the time (23.6%). Because of these conditions, the veterans needed money to continue living, causing them to protest when denied their bonus.
